No Safe Place: Incest and Defilement in Botswana
The title of this book captures the unfortunate and often horrifying situation of many children in Botswana. The study has revealed that, contrary to all expectations, the family is no longer always a safe haven for children. No place seems safe as these crimes are mostly committed in those very places of ‘safety’ – within the children's homes, in their neighbourhoods, and at school and church premises, and only sometimes around public places such as nightclubs and bars. The crimes of incest and defilement against girl-children are committed, for the most part, by blood and other adult and older relatives who the children have been socialised to trust, and to whom they look for protection. They are committed at any time of the day. 2002 136pp Paperback
